Open Data Policy
The Applied Aspects of Information Technology journal supports the principles of open science and promotes transparency, reproducibility, and verifiability of research results by encouraging authors to openly share research data related to their publications.
1. Scope of the Policy
This Policy governs issues related to the accessibility of research data used or generated during the preparation of manuscripts. It complements, but does not replace, the following journal policies:
- Archiving and Repository Policy (long-term preservation of published materials);
- Artificial Intelligence Policy (use of artificial intelligence tools);
- Copyright & Licensing Policy (copyright and licensing issues).
2. Definition of Research Data
Research data refers to materials necessary to validate or reproduce the results presented in a publication, including but not limited to:
- datasets;
- software code, scripts, and models;
- algorithms and computational parameters;
- questionnaires, experimental protocols, and other supporting materials.
Issues related to the use of artificial intelligence for generating or analysing such data are governed by the Artificial Intelligence Policy.
3. Principles of Data Openness
The journal encourages, but does not require, mandatory open sharing of research data. Authors are recommended to:
- make research data available through open or restricted-access repositories;
- ensure the possibility of verification and reuse of research results;
- provide persistent identifiers (DOI, URL) for accessing the data.
The absence of openly available research data is not a reason for manuscript rejection.
4. Repositories and Data Storage
Authors may use the following types of repositories to deposit research data:
- institutional repositories;
- general-purpose or domain-specific repositories.
The long-term archiving of published articles and metadata is regulated by the journal’s Archiving and Repository Policy.
5. Data Availability Statement
When research data are openly or restrictively available, authors are encouraged to include a brief Data Availability Statement in the manuscript indicating:
- where the data are stored;
- the conditions of access;
- the reasons for access restrictions, if applicable.
6. Data Access Restrictions
Access to research data may be restricted in cases where:
- the data contain personal, confidential, or sensitive information;
- legal, ethical, or contractual limitations apply;
- data disclosure may violate the rights of third parties.
In such cases, authors should indicate the reason for restricting access to the data without disclosing confidential information.
7. Copyright and Author Responsibility
Authors retain copyright to their research data and bear full responsibility for:
- the lawful use and dissemination of the data;
- compliance with ethical standards and data protection requirements;
- the accuracy and completeness of data references.
Licensing issues are governed by the journal’s Copyright & Licensing Policy.
